One of the silent challenges of older Americans is isolation. When children and grandchildren move to all corners of the country or even the world, it can be difficult to feel connected.
I was thinking about this recently when I learned about the Nixplay photo frames.
These wonderful devices allow family members to send photos directly into a loved one’s home. All you have to do is connect the frame to WiFi, and then anyone who has the frame’s unique email address can send a photo directly into its queue.
A colleague of mine (I’ll call him John) gave a frame to his grandmother. No one in the family lives near Grandma, but John’s mom is able to regularly update the Nixplay frame’s photos with the app on her smartphone. Other family members email photos in regularly, too. It brightens the grandmother’s day every time she notices a new photo come in, and this helps the whole family feel more connected to each other’s daily lives.
Now, when John’s mom posts a family photo on Facebook, she also sends it to her mom’s frame. It’s like creating an exclusive family Facebook feed in Grandma’s living room.
