On October 4th, the Caring Hearts Memory Keepers participated for the fifth consecutive year in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Staff from the Caring Hearts National Support Center, family members, and pets gathered on a chilly Saturday morning to walk three miles through downtown Cincinnati. 42 total people participated in the walk, wearing team t-shirts sponsored in full by Prograde.
The team held events during the past several months to raise money and reach their goal. With events such as jeans week, a company-wide bake sale, and an on-site pizza truck day, employees all chipped in to support the cause. A local restaurant, Mio’s Pizzeria Blue Ash, even hosted a fundraising dinner for the team, with a percentage of total store sales for the day dedicated to the cause. By participating in these fundraising efforts and gathering donations individually, the team raised a total of 164% of the team goal. Money raised for this event goes toward research, care for those living with the disease, and support for all who are affected by Alzheimer’s.
This annual walk is the largest of its kind to raise awareness for this disease. The nation's 6th leading cause of death, someone develops Alzheimer’s every 67 seconds in the United States. “Of the top ten diseases in the country, Alzheimer’s is the only one that has no cure, no prevention, and no means to slow the progression,” says Diana Bosse, Special Events Manager for the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati.
This is a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts, as many of our clients are affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia. If you or someone you know or love has been diagnosed with this disease then you understand the challenges and heartbreak that can come along with the diagnosis. The symptoms of this disease have an impact on everyone and the Memory Keepers were proud to participate in the Walk – in memory of those that have been taken by Alzheimer’s and in support of those who are currently dealing with the disease.
